Saxon Official's Sword with Fire-Gilded Hilt, Mother-of-Pearl Grip and Blued Blade, Osang
Steel, fire-gilded brass and mother-of-pearl. High-quality Saxon official's court sword with richly pierced and fire-gilded basket hilt in Rococo style. The shell guard bears applied Saxon coats of arms beneath a crown. The grip is fitted with mother-of-pearl inlays. The narrow blade is blued to half its length and decorated on both sides with gilded rocailles. The blade is inscribed "C.H. Osang Dresden" within the blued section. Black leather scabbard with fire-gilded brass fittings, the locket and chape each decorated with rocaille ornament. Very good, age-appropriate condition, gilding worn, scabbard intact. Overall length 90 cm, blade length 76 cm, blade width 1.7 cm.
The Saxon Beamtendegen served as the rank weapon of senior civil officials in the Kingdom of Saxony.
