“Antiques are eco” – did you know? Bringing transport boxes for large services, blankets for paintings and reused packaging materials help us all...
When the hammer falls in Quedlinburg on November 15, collectors’ dreams will come true. We present an exceptionally curated selection ranging from feats of technical innovation to masterpieces of porcelain art.
The absolute highlight is a historic mechanical mining model from the Ore Mountains (circa 1900). Its complex mechanism brings dozens of hand-carved miner figures to life. Bidding for a good cause:the entire hammer price will be donated to the reforestation of the Kuckanstal valley near Bad Sachsa.
Another focal point is the dissolution of a major private collection of Thuringian porcelain (Karl Ens, Volkstedt). It includes hundreds of naturalistic animal figures – among them impressive eagles – as well as the rare porcelain “Lovers” group from the Wallendorf manufactory, an important document of social history.
From porcelain to mobility: a true technical gem is the rare French motorized bicycle Alcyon “Alcyonnette” (1924). The machine remains in outstanding original condition with fine patina and, complete with carbide lamp, represents a genuine time capsule of the 1920s.
The auction lineup is rounded off by selected artworks – including works by Czeslaw Wasilewski – and an impressive collection of rare Montblanc “Writers Edition” fountain pens.
Join us for a little tour through our Tenne. Once upon a time, carriages were repaired here — today, it’s home to hundreds of artworks and antiques. From the paintings on the walls to the porcelain in the display cabinets – there’s so much to discover!
I ask Mike to attach the rope to this guillotine model (Lot 514)… and what does he do? He finds an old Halloween finger in the workshop and decides to shock me with it. For a second there, I was ready to call an ambulance. (Sound ON! ) Anyway, no worries — Mike still has (all) his fingers. And the good news (according to him): the fully functional 20th-century model… really works. Phew.
I’ve picked out something truly special for you: one of the highlights of our 78th auction on November 15 is this incredible collection of Montblanc Writers Edition fountain pens. It includes all the great names — from Charles Dickens and Dostoevsky to Hemingway. But my personal favorite is this one: the Agatha Christie pen (Lot 649). Take a look at the details — the clip is a snake with two ruby eyes, and (my favorite part) when you unscrew it, the 750 gold nib itself is engraved with a snake’s head. Pure craftsmanship!
