German Fire Brigade Honour Decoration 2nd Class in Original Case, 1936–1945
German Fire Brigade Honour Decoration, 2nd Class (Feuerwehr-Ehrenzeichen 2. Stufe), instituted 1936. Silver-plated base metal in the form of a Greek cross with white-enamelled arms applied with red-enamelled flame tongues. At the centre a round medallion with black-enamelled swastika. Behind the cross a pierced ring bearing the circumscription "FÜR VERDIENSTE IM FEUERLÖSCHWESEN". Soldered suspension ring at the top. Reverse plain. In its accompanying black presentation case with white silk lining in the lid and black bedding. Decoration with clear enamel and undamaged silvering, case with light traces of use. H 56 mm (incl. suspension ring), W 43 mm.
The Fire Brigade Honour Decoration was instituted on 22 June 1936 by Reich Minister of the Interior Wilhelm Frick and given its final form on 30 January 1938 under Adolf Hitler. The 2nd class was awarded to members of fire brigades for 25 years of uninterrupted service. The decoration was produced by various mints and approved order manufacturers, including the Vienna Mint. Production continued until the end of the war in 1945.
