The Swiss officer's dagger Model 1943 was introduced by Federal Council decree of 4 November 1943 as a replacement for sabres and épées, and issued from 1 January 1944 to officers and senior non-commissioned officers of the Swiss Army. The firm of Karl Elsener in Schwyz (later Victorinox) and SIG Neuhausen were the two principal manufacturers. The bayonet Model 57 was developed for the Sturmgewehr 57 (SIG SG 510) of the Swiss Army and produced from 1957 by the Waffenfabrik Neuhausen. Blades were supplied in equal parts by Victorinox and Wenger.
