2 Photo Albums Flak Regiment 13 & F.A.S. Wustrow (1935-1938)
High-quality military estate set from the rearmament phase of the Wehrmacht, consisting of two photo albums with a very high density of technical and contemporary historical imagery. 1) The blue album (24 pages, 27 x 19 cm) bears the title "1. Batterie Flakregiment 13" and documents the period from 1935 to 1937 in detail. It begins with the swearing-in on Nov 7, 1935, followed by winter exercises in the Erzgebirge (February 1936) with half-track vehicles as well as a stay at the Flak Artillery School (F.A.S.) Wustrow on the Darß peninsula (1936). Technically highly interesting are the photos of training on special equipment: Shown are ring funnel direction listeners (acoustic location), heavy rangefinders, searchlight batteries in night action, muzzle flash photos, and flight target service with biplanes (including target towing for the Flak). A historical highlight is the page about the visit of high-ranking figures to the F.A.S. casino: A photo is captioned "The Führer, Field Marshal Blomberg, Colonel General Göring in the Casino of the F.A.S.". Other stations include a hospital stay in Leipzig, the Kyffhäuser Monument, the flag handover to the F.A.S. in 1937, maneuvers in the Lüneburg Heath (1937), exercises in Greifswald/Pomerania, as well as civilian impressions of a harbor tour in Hamburg and the new Hamburg-Lübeck Autobahn. 2) The album bound in yellow-checkered fabric (21 pages, partially unfilled, 32 x 22 cm) follows chronologically (dated "Day of the Wehrmacht Feb 20, 1938") and shows service in the barracks (captioned "I.A.R. 73"). The focus here is on winter maneuvers with heavy equipment (guns, tractors in the snow) and the rail transport of the unit. A culturally and historically outstanding single image is the shop window of the "Schober" store with the large sign: "Closed until further notice due to conscription" – a rare document that drastically visualizes the effects of conscription on the civilian middle class. Condition commensurate with age, the covers are partly slightly bumped, but the inside pages and photos are well preserved; in the blue album very detailed and aesthetically captioned (white ink on black cardboard).
Please inspect. This set stands out clearly from standard albums due to the combination of high-profile military figures (Hitler/Göring visit), specialized weapon technology (sound locators), and strong social history (the closed shop). The Flak Artillery School Wustrow was the elite training facility of the Luftwaffe, which explains the quality of the equipment shown.
