The Prussian Grenadier Sabre Model 1816 was introduced after the Wars of Liberation as standard issue for Prussian infantry and grenadier troops. The crowned monogram "FRW" stands for King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia (1770–1840), under whose reign the Model 1816 was placed into service. The numbering "N55 3A B6C" stamped into the guard served to assign the weapon to a specific military unit and the individual piece within the regiment.
