Lot of Five Bayonets with Jäger Extra Side Arm and Mauser Export Bayonets for Brazil

Steel, wood, stag horn, brass and leather. A lot comprising five bayonets: 1) A French needle bayonet Modèle 1886 (Épée-Baionnette) with brass grip and cruciform blade cross-section for the Lebel rifle. 2) A Third Reich extra side arm (Extraseitengewehr) for Jäger (hunter) units with stag horn grip, crossguard and pommel of zinc. 3) A Seitengewehr 98/05 without scabbard. 4)–5) Two German Mauser export bayonets for Brazil (M1908) with leather scabbards and brass fittings, both inscribed on the blade ricasso "WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Cie SOLINGEN" (WKC). L. 40–65 cm.

Please view in person. The present lot brings together five edged weapons from three nations and various periods. The extra side arm (Extraseitengewehr) for Jäger units was a parade piece of the mountain infantry and Jäger troops of the Third Reich, featuring the characteristic stag horn grip. The crossguard and pommel of zinc suggest late production. The two Mauser export bayonets (Model 1908) were manufactured in Germany for the Brazilian army and bear the typical leather scabbards with brass fittings. Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie (WKC) of Solingen was one of the foremost manufacturers of German edged weapons and produced export arms for South America alongside military bayonets. The French needle bayonet Modèle 1886, with its distinctive square-section blade, was the standard thrusting weapon of the French infantryman during the First World War.
