The police NCO sword was introduced from 1936, following the consolidation of German police forces under the Reichsführer-SS, as the regulation edged weapon for NCO ranks of the Ordnungspolizei. The firm of Emil Voos in Solingen was active from 1925 and ranked among the major manufacturers of edged weapons during the Third Reich, holding the RZM licence M7/2. The knot motif on the scabbard locket is a characteristic design element of police swords from this period.
