The lion head sabre was the regulation edged weapon for Army officers from 1935 and was worn with parade uniform and on official occasions. Production ceased during the course of the Second World War. The firm of Carl Eickhorn in Solingen was founded in 1865 and ranked among the most important German edged weapon manufacturers. The squirrel trademark can be traced back to the Solingen swordsmith Peter Lobach in the 15th century.
