Two student caps and a Kommersbuch "Silentium" (Drei Masken-Verlag Berlin, 1929)
Group of two student caps and a Kommersbuch. A green silk cap, 8 x 24 x 17 cm (HxWxD), and a green cap with silver band, 9 x 25 x 23 cm (HxWxD). Together with the Kommersbuch "Silentium" by Hermann Krome, published in 1929 by Drei Masken-Verlag Berlin, containing songs of student fraternities. Age-appropriate worn condition, slight moth damage on the cap with silver band.
Student caps ("Tellermützen") with coloured tops and decorative bands are corporation-specific headwear of German student fraternities and corporations of the 19th and early 20th c. The date "1929" refers only to the Kommersbuch; the caps may date from later. The Kommersbuch "Silentium! Alte und neue Studenten-, Kommers- und Volkslieder" was edited by Hermann Krome (1888–1955), a Berlin conductor, song composer and folk song researcher, and published in 1929 by Drei Masken-Verlag Berlin with illustrations by Franz Stassen.
