Ceramic Maritime Figurine Group “Accordion Player and Listener”
ceramic, partially green-patinated, monogrammed “B. C.” incised in left of the base, Expressive figurine group depicting two male figures on a rectangular plinth: on the left, an accordion player with a tilted head and finely detailed concertina, on the right, a companion with head thrown back and one foot lifted — both dressed in casual sailor-style clothing with caps. The figures are naturalistically modeled, with typical poses and garments representing maritime or working-class types. The coloration is restrained, featuring soft surface treatment and sculpturally emphasized contours, good age-appropriate condition, with minor chips, especially to the accordion, the accordion player’s cap has been restored, 37 x 29 x 16 cm (HxWxD)
This finely modeled composition reflects the style of popular small-scale sculpture from the 20th century, in which musical scenes, laborers, or harbor types are depicted in dynamic poses. The expressive modeling suggests an artistically ambitious studio work. The signature “B. C.” has not yet been conclusively attributed, but points to an individual artist’s creation. 360-degree photo on our website.
