Hedwig Bollhagen (1907-2001), Cake plate
stoneware, glazed and hand-decorated, around 1950-60, inscribed on the base with a red model number and monogram "HB", A large plate for serving cakes. The design is simply functional, in keeping with the Bauhaus tradition, yet the graphic design lends the piece a powerful visual impact. The regular, radially radiating decoration of wine-red, cross-like lines creates a dynamic field of tension and underlines the central surface of the plate, good age-appropriate condition, with slight signs of use, slightly chipped rim, glaze defects on the underside, 2.5 x 33.5 cm (HxD)
