The reverse bears an extensive dedication: “Einem wohllöbl. C.C. der Marchia zu Berlin für freundl., gewährten Waffenschutz S. 1899 S.” (“To the honourable Cartel Corps Marchia in Berlin for the friendly protection in arms, Summer Semester 1899”). Very good condition with minimal signs of age, H. 37 cm, D. 17.5 cm.
This large-format student presentation jug is a striking testament to inter-corps friendship and mutual support at the end of the 19th century. The Corps Guestfalia Greifswald and the Corps Marchia Berlin were in a cartel relationship within the Kösener Senioren-Convents-Verband (KSCV) – the oldest umbrella organization of German student corps, founded in 1848 – which is renowned for its principles of tolerance, lifelong friendship, and personal character development. The production by Villeroy & Boch emphasizes the prestigious character of this jug, which was presented to the Corps Marchia Berlin as a token of gratitude for their offered protection in a fencing matter. A particularly impressive and museum-worthy piece of student memorabilia in excellent condition. 360-degree photo available on our website.
