Student beer stein of the Schwarzburg fraternity Sedinia Greifswald with dedication, 1892

Student beer stein of the Schwarzburg fraternity Sedinia Greifswald with dedication, circa 1900. Beer stein made of faceted glass with a pewter mount and elaborately designed lid insert of hand-painted porcelain. Central is the full coat of arms of the Schwarzburg fraternity Sedinia Greifswald, featuring a barred helmet with mantling in red, gold, and green, and a three-colored crest of ostrich feathers, flanked by two standards. The quartered shield displays, top left: the Prussian eagle, top right: a bundle of arrows on green ground, bottom left: a rising griffin toward the sun, and bottom right: a red griffin. At the center is a heart shield in the colors green-gold-red. Below the shield are two crossed basket-hilt sabres with the motto “Ich wag’s, Gott walt’s” (“I dare, God shall govern”), and beneath it the founding date “24. VII. 1884”. The lid thumb rest is formed as a three-dimensional eagle. Inside the porcelain insert is a handwritten dedication: “Chr. Ostermann / s. l. Lbfx / H. Solbrich / z. fr. Erg. / Gryps. S. S. 1892”. Good condition commensurate with age, with signs of use. Pewter mount slightly loosened at the handle, minor chipping to the base of the glass. H. 17 cm, D. 9 cm, capacity 0.4 l.
