Cup, Studentische Liedertafel Greifswald, 1882/83
Porcelain cup with matching saucer, white glazed, rim and foot highlighted in gold, the wall of the cup finely hand-painted in enamel with the polychrome coat of arms of the Studentische Liedertafel in Greifswald, the shield featuring among others a swan, a lyre, a griffin as crest, and colour ribbons in blue-white-red, flanked by draperies in the colours of the fraternity, inscription of the motto: “Dir fromme Woll’, Ernst u. Toll, Weihe u. Muth, Wonn’ u. Frohgemuth”, beneath the coat of arms the monogram of the Studentische Liedertafel Greifswald, inner base with handwritten dedication: “H. Maron s.l. Franke z. fr. Erg. Gryps, W.S. 1882/83.”, fine, hairline stress crack running from the left edge through the coat of arms to the handle, saucer with gilt rim, overall very good condition commensurate with age, minor signs of wear, H. cup 8 cm, D. cup 9.7 cm, D. saucer 16 cm
