Case with porcelain crest, Student Choral Society Greifswald, 1880/81
Rectangular case, brown leather with silver-plated metal frame and hinge, interior lined with red fabric, two leather straps on the inside, porcelain medallion applied to the outer side, hand-painted with the multicoloured coat of arms of the Studentische Liedertafel of Greifswald, the shield showing among others a swan on blue ground, a red griffin, a golden lyre, and colour bands in blue-white-red, motto: “Ernst u. Toll, Weihe u. Muth, Fromm u. Frohgemuth” (“Earnest and bold, dedication and courage, devout and cheerful”), above it a helmet with crown and griffin as crest, flanked by pink drapery, upper inscription “S. Holz als Sangesbruder p.p. Helm”, below: “z. fr. Erg. Gryps W.S. 1880/81”, good condition consistent with age, leather with heavier signs of use, upper left corner with tear in the covering, 13.5 × 7.5 cm (H × W)
