Engraved commemorative shell casing ashtray, Grenadier Regiment 529, Germany, World War II
Brass, solid shell casing repurposed as an ashtray with six carved notches, raised center with drilled hole, engraved inscriptions around the outer wall, one side with national eagle and inscription “I / Gren. Rgt. 529,” opposite side dedicated: “To the highly esteemed battalion commander Major Burmeier on his 47th birthday from his 1st Company,” flanked by simple engraved swords as decorative elements, signs of use, dark patina, age-appropriate used condition, some cigar rests loose and two missing, H. 5 cm, D. 13 cm
