Historical Harz Mountain Broad Axe, 18th/19th Century
The head is crafted from iron with a blade in traditional form. The broad axe features a wide, flat blade, slightly rounded at the top and tapering to a point at the bottom. The handle is a later addition, covered in leather with a brass wrapping. The axe is in age-appropriate condition, showing weathering, with a total length of 75 cm.
This type of axe was primarily used in forestry work in the Harz Mountains, but also served ceremonial purposes, such as in processions or as a status symbol.
